Cape Attorney Patrick Butler, who died January 2 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington of complications from surgery, was best known to the public for his appearances before the Cape Cod Commission. However, the 54-year-old Centerville resident also was lauded as a man “whose leadership led to many important advances in healthcare on the Cape,” according to a statement from Cape Cod Healthcare.
Mr. Butler, former chairman of the CCHC Foundation Board of Trustees, at the time of his death was serving as chairman of the Foundation’s campaign to raise funds for such projects as the ambulatory complex off Attucks Lane in Hyannis. As CCHC attorney for many capital projects, he also led the regulatory efforts that enabled the construction of the Mugar Building at Cape Cod Hospital and the Medical Office Building at Falmouth Hospital, among other developments. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Cape and Islands United Way.
President/CEO Gary Sheehan and Cape Medical Supply have received the Outstanding Business Award at Philanthropy Day presented by the Planned Giving Council during “Philanthropy Day of Cape Cod” at The Resort and Conference Center of Hyannis. Mr. Sheehan is co-founder of the Cape Cod Young Professionals, co-chairman of Cape Cod Focus and serves on the boards of the Cape and Islands United Way and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.
Cape Cod Healthcare’ Bourne Clinic has reopened as an expanded “walk-in care center” with hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Previously the center operated as part of the Emergency Department at Falmouth Hospital with clinical staffing provided by emergency department physicians. Under the new model, the center will operate as an outpatient facility from the Bourne Health Center, at 1 Trowbridge Place.
Individuals seeking relief from pain and stress now have access to therapeutic massage at the RHCI-Orleans Outpatient Rehabilitation Center in Orleans. The program previously was available only at RHCI’s facility in Sandwich. Flexible hour and half-hour appointments are available for this self-pay program. According to the Cape Care Coalition website, final results, showed 71 percent of Cape Codders voted in favor of the non-binding resolution calling for a single-payer health care insurance plan for Barnstable County. The tally in the three districts where the measure was on the ballot—First and Fourth Barnstable and Barnstable-Dukes-Nantucket—was reported as 42,579 for and 17,425 against This initiative also appeared on ballots in seven other Massachusetts districts and received favorable support ranging from 65 to over 81 percent. The statewide total was almost 73 percent favorable.
