Three Years Later, Mental Health
Remains Burning Cape Cod Issue

Where Genes Are Not The Final Word
The John and Beth Havlicek Genetics Clinic at Cape Cod Hospital was formally dedicated June 27. The clinic expands services to Cape Cod children and families facing birth defects, mental retardation and other genetic disorders. This is a cause supported by the Genesis Fund founded in 1982 by Dr. Murray Feingold, a Cape Cod physician. The clinic was made possible by a $25,000 gift from local philanthropists E.J. and Terry Jaxtimer and recognizes the long support of the Genesis Fund by the former Celtic star and his wife. Dr. Feingold is president of the fund and Physician-in-Chief of the National Birth Defects Center. Pictured at the dedication are Dr. Leif Norenberg, a pediatrician on staff at the hospital, holding his three-year-old daughter, Adelaide, who has been treated at the clinic for infantile scoliosis, speaking with Dr. Feingold as the Havliceks look on. Just over three years ago, this newsletter dedicated most of one issue to the topic “Mental Illness: Bringing Our Silent Problem Out Of The Shadows.” Today, we revisit that subject in depth with a variety of articles.

As the Advisory Board of To Your Good Health, A Health Care Newsletter, pointed out at its recent meeting at the Sheraton Four Points Hyannis Resort, much is happening, but much more remains to be done. Click here for full story and other Mental Health-related articles.
