Outer Cape Health Tabs ‘Interim’ As Permanent CEO & Adds M.D.

Back in October, Dr. Roberta Berrien was named interim Chief Executive Officer of Outer Cape Health Services. Obviously she’s done okay. After sifting through 46 applications for the job (and interviewing six candidates), the Board of OCHS four months later decided to give her the job on a permanent basis as the fourth CEO and first medical doctor to hold the position since the center was founded in 1966.

Dr. Berrien brings years of experience in community health to her position here on the Outer Cape, having been Medical Director of a number of similar federally qualified health centers, including Settlement Health and Medical Services in East Harlem, New York City, Blackstone Valley Community Health Care in Central Falls/Pawtucket Rhode Island, and the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Dr. Berrien recently left her position as Executive Director of University Health and Counseling Services at Northeastern University, where she combined the health center and counseling center into one unit to better serve students, and where she oversaw the Learning Disabilities Program and Disabilities Resource Center as well.

Dr. Berrien graduated from Bryn Mawr College, holds a Master of Science degree in Biology from MIT and a Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee.

Soon after her appointment, Dr. Berrien announced that Dr. John H. Gullett, II had been added to the medical staff.

Dr. Gullett has particular experience in the field of infectious diseases during a 30-year professional career that includes volunteering at the San Francisco Free Health Clinic.

In addition to his professional career, Dr. Gullett is a private pilot and, as a volunteer, served on numerous non-profit Boards and Committees in the arts and humanities and as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the San Francisco Free Health Clinic. He is fluent in French, and speaks Italian, Spanish and German. Dr. Gullett and his wife Marilyn live in Provincetown.

Patients may schedule an appointment with Dr. Gullett at either of OCHS site by calling 508-487-9395 in Provincetown or 508-349-3131 in Wellfleet.
