Cape Medical Supply has established a memorial foundation to honor company co-founder Mark Sheehan, who passed away April 2 after a lengthy battle with cancer. The Cape Medical Supply Mark Sheehan Memorial Foundation will address community needs with special focus on end of life care and cancer support services. The foundation will be professionally managed in partnership with the Cape Cod Foundation. Demolition work has begun on several construction projects at Cape Cod Hospital. The work will include renovation of the patient registration area, main corridor and front façade of the hospital. For the patient registration area renovation, the gift shop will be temporarily relocated to the Lorusso Conference Room in the Mugar Wing of the hospital. The Casual Gourmet snack bar has been closed. All three projects are expected to be finished by June 4.


Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts has recognized Falmouth Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement SM. The designation is given to “leading institutions that meet clinically-validated quality standards and deliver better overall outcomes in patient care,” according to Dr. Allan Korn, Chief Medical Officer of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Children’s Cove, the Cape and Islands Child Advocacy Center, in conjunction with TD Bank, is setting up 15 “Pinwheels for Preventions” gardens across Cape Cod. Every location will have 200 blue and silver pinwheels, each one representing one of 200 children who reported sexual abuse to Children’s Cove last year. In total, the 15 locations represent the more than 3,000 children that Children’s Cove, a department of Barnstable County, has helped in the 12 years since its inception.
